It may be two days after the event, but it’s fair to say I’m still not over England’s defeat in Gelsenkirchen.

There’s still a nagging doubt in the back of my mind that Sven-Goran Eriksson got it wrong tactically. Had he only given Frank Lampard or Stevie Gerrard a license to roam, it would have given Wayne Rooney some vital support and the result against Portugal could have been oh, so different.

Young Wayne’s red card looked very harsh and the debate looks certain to run and run on that one.

I said just a few short days ago that it’s about time the cheats and the divers were sorted out by FIFA, and Cristiano Ronaldo committed the biggest sin in the book by getting a fellow pro sent off – I’d love to be a fly on the wall at Manchester United when the two of them report back for pre-season!

Saturday wasn’t a great day for me all round as, in the space of 24 hours, my dreams of seeing David Beckham lift the trophy had been broken, and my pocket was feeling the pain too. My money was on Brazil to win the competition outright, with Ronaldo to be the top goalscorer!

I guarantee England fans won’t be the only ones disappointed by the end of our World Cup campaign. Germany has been such a great host this summer and the welcome extended to England followers has been nothing short of fantastic. That might have had something to do with the money being spent in the various towns and cities; as each England fan must have spent a small fortune in their time over here.

With the fans heading home to think of what might have been, the focus here in Cologne turns to the semi-finals and I’ll be giving you my verdict on Germany versus Italy tomorrow.

That’s all for now.
