The Brazilian-born playmaker hit a fabulous goal to send his side on their way. Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty put the icing on the cake and coach Luis Felipe Scolari can now start planning for the knock-out stage.
Following that game I watched the Czech Republic crash to a 2-0 defeat to Ghana. The Black Stars grabbed an early goal and never looked back. It was always going to be tough for the Czechs after they lost a man to a red card. The group is now wide open and Ghana have a great chance of going through to the next round.
The Italy game against the USA had everything but it was really frustrating for the Azzurri. It’s not often a game has a goal, an own goal and three red cards at this level but the Americans held on and got off the mark after a poor start against the Czech Republic. It means Group E will go right to the wire and ensures a tense 90 minutes for the fans on Thursday.
At the moment I’m looking forward to the Brazil versus Australia game. I fancy the Brazilians to put their sluggish start behind them and, as I said yesterday, they have to keep faith with Ronaldo. Yes, he was poor against Croatia but class is permanent. Ronaldinho will also improve and can be THE man at this World Cup. I can’t wait for it!
