It’s the big final then and a cracker to look forward to, as Italy face France in a battle of the European heavyweights.

France didn’t have to do a lot to win their semi-final against Portugal, who were never going to score in a million years! Meanwhile, Italy were involved in the game of the tournament against Germany. A fantastic game in which the Azzurri showed their real class going forward.

It looks like being a battle between Italy’s attacking players and France’s solid backline. Francesco Totti was outstanding against the hosts, while Luca Toni held the line superbly well on his own.

Zinedine Zidane though is on the lookout for a fairytale finish to his career, as Les Bleus look for their second World Cup success.

It is such a hard game to call. We’ve seen how stubborn Italy are at the back, Cannavaro has been outstanding and I expect another solid display from the Azzurri skipper.

But France have been improving as the tournament has progressed after a disappointing group stage. Franck Ribbery has been fantastic for them wide on the right and a lot will depend on whether he can provide the ammunition for Thierry Henry to deliver the goods in front of goal.

When push comes to shove though, I’m going plump for France. It’s likely to be a tight affair in Berlin, but I think Raymond Domenech’s men will just edge it in the 90 minutes.

I think France will run out 1-0 winners and I fancy Thierry Henry to score the winning goal and cap a fantastic tournament for the Arsenal man.

That’s all from me for now, but I’ll be back again tomorrow with a review of the 2006 World Cup.
